I think it’s a bit unfair to say we overachieved. Even if you take away the wins in matches like those against Bournemouth, we’ve significantly outperformed the next closest teams. And yes the butterflies are back out of their cocoons 🥰

Yeah I don’t think I worded that quite right. I more meant overachieved expectations. Most pundits, fans, etc were expecting top four. I don’t think anyone was expecting a title push.

True. I think the rest having difficult seasons also may have helped.

Yeah, extremely interested in what next season brings as far as if those clubs will continue to slip or not.

Big 4 -> big 6 -> Big 8. Games we won easily may not be as easy to win maybe 🤷🏾‍♂️ or we go unbeaten!

Yesterday was very sad but I did have to laugh when Peter Drury on the broadcast said that Mikel will be weeping into his pillow tonight, after 2-0. Too real, too real

Love Olive and Velma, miss Manatee. Our old dog Nelly, who looked a lot like Olive in her long-gone puppyhood, would doubtless send her regards but she's taking a nap.

I echo your sentiments regarding the season, I'll remember it with gratitude and affection long after the disappointment has faded. Love your work, thank you.

Damn it, that hurt. A lot. Had you told me we were going to be top of the league for damn near all season, AND qualify for Champions League next year I’d have ripped your hands off and slapped you silly with them. We kicked ass this seaaon, but sadly it was too much and to sustain that is very difficult. So damn proud of what they did and we all witnessed this team play some amazing football. Holy crap! The future looks very very bright for Arsenal. To quote Ahnold….I’ll be Baach

Ohh to be, ohh to be, ooh to be a Gooner! We love you Arsenal we do, we love you Arsenal we do oh Arsenal we love you! 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️💪🏼🙌🏼

Yup, very much feel the same way about this season. Hurts a bit now, but I'll look back in fondness of this season for sure.

Wonderful words. I can feel the emotion pouring off my screen. Of course there’s disappointment, it’s only natural, and I imagine our boys are the most disappointed of all. As long as they take this feeling and turn it into fuel for next season I think it’s okay. The truth is we almost did what’s looking increasingly impossible -- dethrone City. City deserve credit for man management, and leveraging resources well, under one of the best league managers ever. They peaked at the right time, and used their incredible squad depth to their advantage.

If Pep is Darth Vader, Arteta is still in his padawan era -- wait until he becomes a Jedi master. Hopefully our result this season will allow us to bring the best talent world soccer has to offer to join the Arsenal. That will help with squad depth and injury coverage. Our team is young and hungry. I see no reason we can’t improve on this season’s result sometime in the future, but it will require near perfection across the whole of the season to compete with The Empire aka City. That slide in form that encompassed the Liverpool result and the next three games was the beginning of the end.

Having said all that, I’m so proud of this team. I’m old enough to have cheered on some great Gunner squads in my day, and I never thought I could love another iteration to the level of those previous ones, but this young team brings me so much joy. I guess hope is the overwhelming takeaway for me this season, and as the Star Wars films taught us, “Rebellions are built on HOPE.”

Come on you Gunners! 👊

You know, I almost drew something for this newsletter with a star wars reference. Something along the lines of a New Hope, but couldn't quite nail it in my mind so I went with this one instead.

You've summed up exactly how I'm feeling at the moment better that I ever could. Sunday's result stings for sure, but the season as a whole has been amazing, and better than most of us ever would've expected back in August.

This club is still building, it's going to be even better next season. And in the meantime, I get to cheer them on in LA!

Thank you for this. I was wondering, perhaps sometime in the future, you could draw something that encapsulates the season. The highs - the lows - an visual memory of 2022-23. Thanks again.
